Permanent sculpture

Splash~ captures an ephemeral moment: the lively momentum of a spilled drink. What is a mishap in everyday life becomes an aesthetic homage to the craft of beer brewing—dynamic, playful, technological. Made of polished stainless steel, the sculpture reflects its surroundings and symbolizes movement and fluidity, further creating a material connection to the laboratory equipment inside the building. Augmented reality brings Splash~ to life digitally: flowing 3D fluids meander beyond the object into the sky and invite for further exploration – an immersive experience between art, technology, and brewing culture.
Situated in front of the Zentrum für Brau- und Getränketechnologie Weihenstephan, the work establishes a material and conceptual relationship with its surroundings. The stainless steel echoes the technological and laboratory environments of the research centre, while the form refers to the liquid processes at the heart of brewing. An everyday mishap is transformed into an aesthetic encounter with movement, technology and the culture of making and sharing beverages.
The physical sculpture is extended through augmented reality, introducing a second, immaterial dimension to the work. When viewed through a smartphone on site, flowing digital forms emerge from the sculpture and move beyond its physical boundaries into the surrounding space. The AR extension does not simply reproduce the sculpture but reactivates its central premise: the possibility of a form escaping its material containment.
The work consequently exists between physical object and digital image, permanence and ephemerality, architecture and atmosphere. Its boundaries are no longer entirely defined by the stainless-steel form, but expand through reflection, movement, digital space and the perception of the viewer.
At the heart of Splash~ is therefore a simple gesture that can be read on several levels: a spill, a joke, a sculptural experiment, a technological translation and a reflection on the instability of form. By turning an accidental splash into a monumental and interactive encounter, the work invites us to look at something familiar differently — with a little more curiosity, and perhaps a sense of humour.
